Maurizio De Terlizzi's new book, Junkers Ju.87 "Picchiatello", is not quite what you'd expect in a book covering the subject of the famed Luftwaffe terror weapon, the Stuka.  Instead, it concentrates on the Stuka as it appeared with the Regia Aeronautica (Italian Air Force).  This book is quite comprehensive, tracing the history of the Stuka in Italian service, and includes many wartime photos (even with a few in color!)

One of the nice features of this book is, although it was originally written in Italian, the book provides complete English text as well.  The text is supported quite well by a number of photos, and readers of the Squadron 'In Action' books will appreciate the similarity in style of this particular volume.  Another large feature of this book in addition to the other information provided, and one of particular value to the modeling community, is the fourteen page modeling section in the center of the book, detailing the construction of the Hasegawa Ju 87 R-2 variant in 1/48 scale, with details on the build, including aftermarket accessories used.  Fourteen black and white photos accompany the description of the build, and there are also eleven color photos of the finished model (and a beautiful job at that!)

Additional technical and modeling information is provided in the form of plan view drawings of the Stuka, as well as a modeler's paint cross-reference chart and a list of available decals and aftermarket accessories for creating a Stuka of the Regia Aeronautica.  Six color profiles round out the content.  I recommend this book highly to Stuka enthusiasts, especially if you've been considering building your Ju 87 as an aircraft of the Regia Aeronautica - it will prove to be a valuable modeling resource, and a great addition to your book collection.

My very sincere thanks to Ken Lawrence of Pacific Coast Models for providing the review sample of this book to ARC.  Pacific Coast Models specializes in modeling subjects of the Italian Air Force, and if this genre is of interest to you, they offer a variety of modeling products to meet your needs - please be sure to visit their site by clicking the hyperlink previous in this paragraph.  Thanks again, Ken!
