1 This is an F-16A Block 15 I did for the USAF Museum here at Edwards. It was used by the 6510 Flt Test Sq. in the early 1980's. The kit was built using the BB Cockpit and a combination of kit/Superscale decals for the basic markings and ALPS Printed decals for the tail no. (thanks to Matt Graham!) I thinned the gear doors to scale thickness and used small diameter steel tubing for the pitot and AOA probes. I also cut the Horizontal stabs back to "small tail" configurations and thinned the trailing edges for a scale appearance as well. The static dischargers are bristles from a tooth bush, but will be replaced as I think they're too large. I used Model Master paints except for the exhaust where I used original ALCLAD for the bright metal and new ALCLAD II "jet exhaust" for
the turkey feathers.

My "Fighing Fulcrum" .  It's flaps, air-brakes and horizontal stabilizers were built into taxied position.  The air frame was painted with Gunze Sangyo Mr. Color and weathered with washes of artist oil.  The streaks inside the exhaust nozzle were simulated with pastel powder which produced an excellent effect.  Below is a summary of the elements that composed this F-16: Kit: Hasegawa V4 F-16C Block 30 Decal:TwoBobs 48-001 F-16C Fighting Fulcrums Cockpit: Black Box 48025 F-16C Viper Others: Cobra Company 48025 F-16 Aggerssor Set, Sol 3052 AIM-9L, AN/APX-95 TACTS pod from Hasegawa X48-8 weapons set, Steady braces holding ALQ-188 pod from Revel 4578 A-6E.

Winner  Lin Bo Shiun

5 This is Hasegawa's F-16C "Wisconsin ANG" model #09378.  I used the Verlinden ACES II ejection seat.

I built this out of the box with the exception of adding a Black Box Cockpit and static discharge wires on the trailing edge of the wings, stabs and rudder. The Kit's decals where used and the plane was weathered with water colors to wash the panel lines and Pastel to give it the well used work

This is Hasegawa's original 'A' release, with a Verlinden resin seat, Model Technologies photo-etch seat belt buckle, HUD, and ladder sets, ordnance from the Hasegawa 'B' set, painted with Modelmaster enamels, and marked with a combination of the kit-supplied decals supplemented with MicroScale pieces.

Here's my 1/48 scale Hasegawa F-16, wearing the Daco decal sheet to represent the 1998 Belgian Air Force Tigermeet bird.  The decal sheet came with a resin ECM pod and correction for the chute in the tail. I finished it with Model Master Aircraft Interior Black, Model Master Metalizers, and Bare-Metal Foil around the burner can. I e-mailed a fellow in Belgium, and he sent me some photos of the pilot. I think the sweetest touch to this model is the striped helmet I  modified....though the patch he sent me for the display base is pretty neat, too.  The "missile" on the wing was modified from a sidewinder to reflect the smoke discharger I've seen in all of the reference photos....

The model is the recent Hasegawa release,Corrected using the Airwaves largemouth intake and a Neomega Resin seat added.

The decals are from the kit.;
Added detail to the u/c bays was added from the Eduard p/e set.
The Aircraft is in the 50th celebration scheme.

See bottom of this page for list of contestants.

Contest rules.....

1)  Model must be a 1/48 scale Hasegawa F-16.

2)  Everyone must have fun.

More contest rules......

There will be 3 categories rolled into one contest.

Category #1  "Do Anything You Freakin' Please"

Prize: The new 1/48 Hasegawa F-16CJ-b-40 model kit  from Uncle Bills Hobby (Uncle Rick loves F-4's but he feels this F-16 kit fits the contest better)

This category starts with the basic kit and goes up from that.  Anything is permitted.  Spend all you want on decals...resin goodies....heck do whatever you please, but you must use the basic kit.  You can use the Hasegawa cockpit tub etc if you want or use a Black Box cockpit set in your Hasegawa kit.  You can get goofy if you want  and mount endless weapons on it or make it into a Bi-Plane....or add an AWACS dish on top.  There are no limits.  You can even get serious and build a very highly detailed accurate kit....yawn.  ;-)

Category #2  Out of the Box  (we'd like to have at least 5 people in this category to make it happen....that's not written in stone....it's just what we'd like)

Prize: Choice of one 1/48 decal sheet from  Twobobs Aviation Graphics (must be  a decal sheet still in stock or a future release)

This category is for the basic kit....re-scribing of panel lines is permitted to replace lost detail, but using any aftermarket goodies is not permitted (with the exception of decals).  Any aftermarket decals will be permitted.  You can also use masking tape seat belts.

Here are the Official IPMS rules we will be using as a guide in this category.

OUT-OF-THE-BOX entries will be governed by the following rules:

A. KITS. Any commercially available kit may be used. The number of categories incorporating Out-Of-The-Box awards will be determined by the host chapter and the National Contest Committee.

B. FINISH. The natural plastic finish may be retained, or it may be foil-covered or painted with brush, spray can, or airbrush. Decals other than those included with the kit may be used. Insignia, markings, and instrument panels may be hand-painted instead of decaled. Weathering is permitted.

C. CONSTRUCTION. The modeler may fill seams and gaps; sand off rivets; drill out gun ports, exhaust pipes, or their appropriate openings; thin to scale such parts as trailing edges, flaps, and doors; add rigging and antennas; and add simple tape or decal seat belts in the cockpit of an aircraft or the interior of a vehicle (NO manufactured hardware - e.g., buckles, etc.)

D. IT IS NOT PERMITTED TO: vacuform, manufacture, or replace any part, or substitute parts from another kit; cut or separate canopies, surfaces, hatches, doors, etc. (no major surgery); combine a standard kit with a conversion kit; add anything other than specified on the instruction sheet except as shown in Section C above.

Category #3  Two Bobs Decals Category

Prize:  Choice of one 1/48 decal sheet from  Twobobs Aviation Graphics (must be  a decal sheet still in stock or a future release)

This category is for any models using Two Bobs decals.  So if your F-16 uses Two Bobs decals, then you will automatically be entered into two categories.  But you can only win one category.  We want to have as many winners as possible.

Contest expires Sept 30/2001

Only one prize per entrant, but you can enter as many models as you can build during the contest period Apr 1/01 to Sept 30/01.  You can only win one prize every 3 months on ARC.

Only one photo per entrant.  Photo can't be bigger than 750 wide and 550 high....photos larger than this will be resized to fit within these dimensions.

But you can have  a general photo of your model with detail photos of the cockpit etc inserted into the main photo.

Send a photo of your completed model to Steve Bamford

Winning models will be selected in each category by the ARC readership.

And remember....have fun!!!
