SAAF Buccaneer

This kit is from Airfix. I found it really hard to get a good fit – the sharper eyed amongst you will spot the places. I built it not long after I got back into modelling about a year ago and at the time was quite happy with the result. I have to say that I have subsequently bought the kit again and will be redoing it, hopefully somewhat more accurately.

Still, I do feel it is a worthwhile tribute to the men and women of the SAAF. As a boy I often watched Buccaneers flying overhead in training exercises over Durban.

The kit has many redeeming features, not least of which is a superb choice of decals to mark the plane in either RAF or SAAF colours – the two oldest airforces in the world, and the only users of this superb aircraft.

I am sure that next time round I will be able to fit the engine cowlings, bomb bay door and wings a little more accurately. It doesn’t do any harm to admit to the odd mistake……
