Towards the end of the Viet Nam War VNAF Chinooks some times flew their missions with A-37B'a escort.  The VNAF A-37B’s dropped flares to create a 'safe' alley to protect the Chinooks against  SA-7's .

The slower moving Chinooks on landing approach  were especially vulnerable to the shoulder-fired, low-altitude SAM.

A VNAF Chinook pilot told me the story, somehow the unusual image of the A-37 & Chinook formation stuck on my mind.  I created this image digitally based on the Italeri 1/72 Chinook and Academy 1/72 A-37.

I hope you enjoy my digital ‘aviation art ‘.
