I have had this
FW-190 (A-8) sitting on my shelf mocking me for years, the (mocking) reason
being, I built it when I first returned to the hobby back in the late ninety's
and, I wasn't exactly a proficient modeler back then, not that I am now either,
just a little fussier. Anyway I needed to do something with this kit. Either
rebuild it or, chuck it out. I did a bit of both actually. I bought a magazine
(impulse bought actually, while in the checkout lane...Thanks Uncle Rick!)
called Luftwaffe I'm Focus. The pictures come from an article in the magazine
about how retreating German forces destroyed their aircraft before they
could be taken over by the advancing enemy. This aircraft had hand
grenades tossed in the cockpit to finish it off. The picture on the cover
of the magazine was what I was shooting for as my finished model, albeit the one
in the magazine was a FW 190 (F-8) and I'm ok with that.

Ok. I did overdo the
weathering a bit and, add too much ash in places but that was for dramatic
effect and, hey I didn't have to add cockpit detail, resin, photo etch, or
polish the clear canopy.
I did have to
build control surface frames but that was actually kind of fun. I also
imagineered some internal structure, simulated burn through of the outer
skin surface by grinding the inside very thin with a Dremel and finishing up
with a hobby knife. I repainted in late war colors, painted on the markings,
(except the swastikas), added some carnage around the scene made of aluminum
foil and wire. It's painted completely with Tamiya acrylics, model railroad
grass makes the landscape, with some ground up (clean) cat litter to add
gravel and drywall dust to make the ash.
So,
if you don't like it, break it.
