This is my homage to Robin Olds. It is March after all and I decided to do something besides grow the mustache this year. I built this kit straight out of the box and used SuperScales P-51D Aces European Theater decals to get the “Scat VI” markings. I used Alclad II paints and to highlight the panel lines I made a mix of gray and black charcoal dust mixed with water. Once this was dry I brushed off the excess powder residue. This is my second attempt with the Alclad paints and I know I still have a lot to learn but this one turned out a lot better.

I am a huge Robin Olds fan and his F-4 and P-38 are also on my future to due list.

I’m not really a fan of the decals, they proved to need some work when, for the price they should have been painless. The tail number in the set is actually the tail number of Scat VII and it called for black paint for the antiglare on the nose but with a little research I think green is the right color for the time period. Black for Scat VII seems correct, maybe. Also the L2 W on the side looks very small when compared to actual pictures of Scat VI. I know the markings aren’t as flashy as some of the Mustangs out there but its…..Scat VI and Robin Olds!!!!
