The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-17 is a high-subsonic fighter aircraft
produced in the USSR from 1952 and operated by numerous air forces in many variants. It is an advanced development of the very similar
appearing MiG-15 of the Korean War.
The MiG-17 first saw combat in 1958 over the Straits of Taiwan and was used as an effective threat against supersonic fighters of the United
States in the Vietnam War.
The Indonesian Air Force (TNI-AU) used the MiG-17F and MiG-17PF acquired in 1961. They are used during the preparation of Operation
Trikora in 1962 to take Western New Guinea (now Papua and Papua Barat) from the Netherlands. Some of the aircraft were used intensively in
TNI-AU Acrobatic Team in 1962 for air show events around Indonesia.

The Kits
Both version are limited-run kits from AZ. Not typical shake-and-bake kits as they required a lot of dry fitting, had no locating pins and
tabs and required generous amount of putty. The assembly of some smaller parts were butt joined and the location were approximate.
Painting was done by rattlecan and decals are from Eagle Strike (MiG-17F), which is too small for the kit, and kit decal for the MiG-17PF.
