RAAF Lockheed P-38 Lightning A55-3 Dragon 1:72 P-38M and Airfix P-38F kitbash to RAAF F-4 reconnaissance machine This Lightning uses the major components of Dragon’s nicely detailed but poorly engineered P-38M, backdated to an earlier version by the use of the chin intakes and boom radiators of the Airfix kit. Various other modifications were undertaken to turn this into an unarmed F-4 equivalent as field-modified by the RAAF in 1942.
A Falcon canopy and Eduard etch brass set were also used in various places. The replaced wing leading edge is authentic to the original, but the wavy demarcation line is rather overstated. Enjoy the photos. Peter Hobbins |
