This is the
Monogram kit. It’s an old kit that’s been around for awhile and
re-released several times. It’s got its usual Monogram fit problems as
well as the raised panel lines.

I replaced the
cockpit with that of Blackbox and re-scribed the panel lines. After
overcoming some major fit problems (intake trunks, landing gear, front wheel
well, wing roots…) which was easily taken care of with Magic Sculpt and super
glue, I sprayed the entire model with a primer coat of Mr. Surfacer 1000, to
check for flaws.
Once I was
satisfied with the kit I began the painting, process. I chose to model the
kit after Group 7 of the Peruvian Air Force. So I used Tamiya’s
XF-64/Red Brown and XF-59/Desert Yellow for the two tone wrap around scheme.
Once the colors
were applied, a coat of Future was applied to prep it for washing. Oil
paints thinned in turpenoid was used to fill in the panel lines as well as to
weather some control surfaces.

The decals chosen for this
project came from Albatros decals. This is a great decal sheet, but hard
to find nowadays. After the decals were applied, a flat coat was sprayed
over the kit. A few more touch ups and various weapons were added to
finish the kit.
