This is my 1/48 Accurate Miniatures kit (kit and decal courtesy of David Reyes – Salamat at Mabuhay ka!).  Decal is from Three Guys Replicas depicting "Alice-Jo” of 332nd FG, 15th AF flown by Tuskegee Airmen. This is the 1st time I worked with a 1/48 kit as I usually build braille scales and also the 1st time I did scratchbuilding.

One of the “major” surgeries that I did was to correct the solid area behind the wheel wells.  According to Scott, this should be open way back up to the 1st major wing spar.

Scott Murphy’s online build served as my reference guide for the scratchbuilding of various parts. I corrected the seat using aluminum soda can using the kit’s seat as a reference.  I added some details on the side walls using various materials such as guitar string, small bits of wire and beads of glue.  I detailed the drop tanks by adding fuel lines (black and clear tubes) from stretch clear sprue and wire with black insulator. Gun tubes were replaced by a hypodermic needle tube. I used aluminum foil and microscale foil adhesive on the fuselage to simulate the bare aluminum and Tamiya flat aluminum on the wings to simulate the doped wings of the P-51’s.  The model was weathered using Tamiya smoke and flat aluminum paint.
