I
could not resist building this model – even though it was a bear and there’s
not enough depleted uranium on the planet to get the thing to sit properly, I
was happy with the outcome. I
really liked the beat-up appearance the B-26s took on in operational service,
and I wanted to try and replicate that look without going overboard. The
good thing about doing a WWII bomber is that you can almost always get away with
a bit of a screwed up paint job as imperfections just add to the character!
The decals are a combination of the kit issued ones and SSI 48-066. As I wanted to model this particular aircraft, and I had read a review of the SSI decals somewhere on the web which had indicated they were ancient and out of production, I thought I’d try eBay. Lo and behold there was a set there. After a fierce fight (and a lot o’ cash) I got them – only to bugger them up a bit when I got the sequence wrong on the left side of the aircraft! C’est la vie. I chalk those events up to modeling dyslexia brought on by too many vapours. Graham
