Greetings
to all of you great modellers! This is my first time of posting an article here
on www.arcair.com
galleries, which are a perfect inspiration and reference for me. I mainly
construct aircraft in 1/48 & 1/32, propellers and jets, with the main focus on the propeller side. So, here I am with my first model
presentation J.
This
is the FW -190 A3 in 1/48 by Tamiya. It is made OOB except of the addition of
the rivets on its surface using the excellent tool “Rosie the Riveter”.
Everything else is as came from the box. The only thing that was some kind of a
challenge, where the kit decals. They came with an extremely thick
carrier that had to be dealt with the use of Gunze Mr. Mark Softer. After that,
several coats of varnishes mixed with a light addition of H-69 (RLM Gray 75)
came to my aid, so that the decals would balance up with the overall camouflage on
the model kit.

Significant
amount of weathering techniques where used as well in order to bring this kit to
life. Pre-shading was the first step using a broken shade of Gunze flat black.
Then the main camouflage colours where applied using the following Gunze colour
codes : H-417 (RLM 76 Light Blue) for the undersides and sides, H-68 (RLM 74
Dark Gray) and H-69 (RLM Gray 75) for the two-tone grey camouflage on the upper
surfaces and sides of the aircraft. Post-shading came next, with several shades
of the previous stated colour codes over selected panel lines. A coat of future
after this process was necessary for the wash that followed with Winsor &
Newton oil colours. Burnt Umber and Lamp Black was used. Some chipping on
selected areas, a final coat of Semi-Gloss varnish to seal off the final
touches, and… its finished!
I
hope you like the end result. It was a fun build and an excellent kit to work
with. It sure wont be the last for me. Up for the next project, which will be
the Fw-190 D-9 Dora in 1/48 as well. See you soon!
