The story of Hawker
Hurricane is a well known one, so I won't go into that here and now. The Hasegawa
rendering of this great aircraft in 1/72 scale has been out for some time and is
still my favorite over the Revell offering because of some shape issues with the
latters radiator intake and the very unrealistic main wheels that Revell
provides. The Hasegawa kit's fabric areas are a bit overdone but that can be
addressed with a little light sanding.

The model was built out-of-box and
only seat belts and radio antenna wire were added. I used Pollyscale acrylics
for the finish on the aircraft with the exception of the wheel wells
which are Alclad II Aluminum...in line with the Hawker practice during the
period of leaving this area bare metal. The decals came from the kit though
Aeromaster decals were tapped for the national insignia and went on without
drama, thank goodness. The weathering was achieved by preshading and pastels
then a final flat coat of Testors Flat was applied to seal the finish work.
These kits are a joy to build
really...good fit, accurate, and with most versions of the aircraft having
been released by Hasegawa and with so many countries having flown them in
every theatre of the war, it will take a while to get bored with the
Hurricane!
The aircraft modeled is a Mk IIc,
s/n LB957, flying with No.34 squadron in India during 1944. A great color
profile of it can be found in the superb book : "Aero Detail 12 Hawker
Hurricane".
Hope you enjoy it!
