1/72 Revell Hunter F6

Having built a number of Hunters previously, I was keen to find a colour scheme which was both colourful & different for the second of my Revell kits.  I mentioned to John, my fiancé, that I fancied building a red aircraft & he then found me some pics of the Daco decal sheet for the brightly coloured aircraft of the Belgian Diables Rouge aerobatic team which I found most appealing, so John then ordered the sheet for me, direct from Daco.

Unlike my previous Revell Hunter, the GA11 featured here some months ago, this one was built entirely OOB & after a little filling & sanding, the screen was masked & the whole thing primed, then painted overall with an aerosol of Ford Radiant Red auto paint.

Once the paint had set, I removed the locating pins from the outer main undercarriage doors so they’d fit in the closed position & then fixed them into the bays with BluTak.  I then applied the main underwing decals &, once dry, cut round the doors with a scalpel & applied decal solvent to help the decals conform.  This is worth doing on most Hunter models, since they usually have underwing serials, awkwardly positioned right across the undercarriage doors & it’s much easier to do it this way than trying to work out where to cut the decals if you’re applying them to the doors separately.  After this, the rest of the decals were applied, this being a long job due both to the complexity of the main decals & the vast number of stencils.  I assume the decals were designed to fit the Airfix kit, but fitted pretty well to the Revell offering, just needing a little touching up with gloss black.

Once decaling was completed, the model was washed off, a couple of gloss coats applied, the screen masking removed & the pre-painted undercarriage, droptanks, seat & canopy fitted.  I was delighted with the finished model & I hope you all like it too.
