This is my recently
completed Academy Bf-109D. I just love the early Luftwaffe splinter camo and
when I saw a profile of this plane in the Kagero book "JG26 Schlageter
Volume 1" I went about finding decals to build it. I obtained an
Aeromaster sheet that contains the markings for Yellow 12 II/JG234 Summer 1938
and I was off. JG234 being the forerunner of JG26.

All in all the
Academy kit was not too bad, it assembles reasonably well with only a little bit
of work here and there. The braces for the horizontal stabilisers are too long
and require trimming to get them to fit. I became aware of some cowling panel
line and air scoop inaccuracies with the kit when it was all too late to fix -
of course.
Painting was
completed using RLM70,71,65 from the Testors Modelmaster range masked with
Tamiya tape to achieve a hard demarcation line. The decals went on over a coat
of modelmaster clear gloss (I will go back to using an acrylic clear gloss next
time as this gives better results with the oil washes that follow in the
weathering stage). Weathering was done using raw umber and lamp black oil washes
painstakingly applied with a fine brush because of the enamel clear coat. Pastel
chalks being applied after the flat coat. Apart from the inaccuracies in the
cowling area this is a fine kit, hope that you all like it.
