Hi Everyone! This
is a F-4E of the New Jersey ANG as it was in 1989. The kit is the Revell F-4F, a
German Phantom, so I had to add the slotted stabilators of the E version. They
are simply a resin copy of Hasegawa's stabilators that I cast myself. The kit
is nearly fantastic. I have three Hasegawa Phantoms in the stash, and this kit
is very similar. The best thing is the surface detail, really amazing! Sharp and
clear panel lines and rivets... a lot of rivets. Really better than Hasegawa.
The ejection seats are good (5 pieces each), I only added belts and the lower
ejection handle. Good cockpit with moulded instruments, better than Hasegawa
that has only decals. Good gear bays, good landing gears, and a suberb fitting!!
The only wrong thing is the canopy. First of all is too thick, especially the
two canopies. But the worst thing is that has a too low profile. If
you look at the side of the model you immediately notice it. Built it with open
canopies, is a lot less evident.
In the end I was
very happy with the kit, also consider that here in Italy it costs the half of
an Hasegawa F-4....

The scheme is the
Euro 1, that I painted with my Olympos and Gunze acrylics.
-
FS34079 - Gunze
H309
-
FS34102 - Gunze
H303
-
FS36081 - Gunze
H301
Only for Phantoms
the Euro 1 scheme has the green 34079 instead of 34092.
I toned down the
colors with a 20% of matt white, and then airbrushed the color from the
bottle over the panel lines. Then an oil wash and other weathering basically
with oil paints.
Decals are from Hasegawa kit #
KA6.
The tow-bar is scratchbuilt.
The display base is made of
plasticard 1,5mm thick glued over a wood frame. I painted it with Tamiya XF-19
then shaded with other 2 or 3 tone of grey. Gunze matt yellow and tyre black,
and a lot of weathering with oils and chalks. Matt cote and that's all!
I hope you enjoyed my work!
Alessio
