1/288 Scratch-built F-104G's

Italian Air Force

Hello,

Here are a couple of Starfighters that I scratchbuilt recently.

I made a master from styrene sheet and portions of sprue blending them with Tamya putty. I produced a little series of resin copies from the master. Both models have been brush painted using Vallejo and Tamya colors.

Scale is 1/288th.

"3-34" was an F-104G based on "Giuseppe Gaeta" air station located in Verona-Villafranca in the mid-eighties (3rd wing, 28th squadron "witches"). F-104G's from 3rd wing, the only Italian Starfighter unit equipped with Orpheus pods, were specialized in tactical reconnaissance role and took part in Desert Storm providing air recon on northern Iraq, taking-off from Erhac airbase in Turkey.

The unit saw its disbandment later on 30th June 1993, switching to the far less fasinating Aeritalia AMX, being the very last unit operating the "G" variant in Italy.

"6-01" was part of 6th wing, 154th squadron "red devils" an F-104G unit specialized in nuclear strike based in Brescia-Ghedi. The model depicts one of the planes as it appeared in the mid-seventies. The unit now operates the more efficient Panavia Tornados.

Models were made in record-breaking time, some resin copies still remaining for future better detailed projects.

Hope You'll enjoy,

Bye.

Giovanni
