Fleer Air Arm
Avenger
For this project I
decided to take an Accurate Miniatures TBF-1C Avenger and model it in Royal
New Zealand Air Force markings and paint. The decals were a set by
Aeromaster which went on very well after an application of future along with
Microset and where necessary Microsol.

The paint scheme was airbrushed
using fun tack as a masking tool. I used a combination of paints including
Humbrol, Tamiya, and Polyscale acrylics. These were the closest to the
three color scheme used in the illustrations. Some color zoom PE by Eduard
was used to finish off the cockpit as well as an EZ-Mask set for the canopy
glass. It has plenty of panels and this helped a lot. The antenna
arrays were strung by hand using fishing mono-filament and Elmer's glue for the
insulators. To present the base I utilized an Eduard's plastic styrene
creation which I painted and weathered.
The Fleet Air Arm
included aircraft from both the RAF and the RNZAF. These fighters and
bombers patrolled the Pacific and attacked both naval vessels as well as
aircraft. With this in mind, I molded my Avenger with a torpedo in the bomb
bay.
