This new decal sheet from Cutting Edge Modelworks includes markings for two different 1/48 B-29 Super Fortresses.

The first aircraft is a B-29-40-BW 42-24592 "Dauntless Dotty" with the 869th BS/497 BG flown by Robert Morgan (pilot of the famous B-17 Memphis Belle) from North Field on the Tinian Islands.  The paint scheme on this aircraft is overall bare metal/silver in appearance with with black on the leading edges of the wings and tail.  The nose art is a topless redhead with a diagonally applied national insignia hiding her mid-section.  The artwork is slightly different on both sides of the fuselage and the artwork on this decal sheet reflects these differences.  The nose art is applied to an white base decal to avoid colour bleed through.  There is also a second noseart of a burly male character holding a bomb under his arm and standing on a cloud.  Pilot Robert Morgan flew "Dauntless Dotty" on a recon mission over Tokyo making it the first B-29 to fly over Tokyo.  This plane was lost in a flight back to the US after the war.

The noseart decals are delicate and two are included for each plane in case you mess up the first ones.  Exacting instructions are included on how to prepare and install these decals…..read these instructions carefully to avoid disaster.  Apparently these noseart decals are very thin and need special care, but once installed they will look very accurate and realistic.  The nose art decals are printed on a one piece decal sheet, so you’ll need to cut the decal free from the rest of the decal film…..patience is the key here.  The noseart decal is beautifully printed with fantastic detail and lovely shading.

The second aircraft is a B-29-50-BW 42-24863 with the 398 BS/504 BG out of North Field on the Tinian Islands in March 1945.  The paint scheme on this aircraft is overall bare metal/silver in appearance.  The nose art is applied to an white base decal to avoid colour bleed through.  The noseart is a sexy black hairs nude lady in a reclining pose with the black text "Lucky Lady" above her.

National insignia are not included in this decal sheet but you can get these from Cutting Edge decal sheet  CED48270.

The decals were flawlessly printed and in perfect registration and the clear carrier film is trimmed very close to the crisply printed colored areas.  I found the noseart decals to be quite appealing and beautifully done.

The instructions are clear and include 1 full and 2 partial views of each aircraft and an extra 3 pages of text instructions is included with a small bit of info about both the planes as well as helpful tips for decal application.

A very nice decal sheet and  sure to please the lucky 300 people that manage to buy one of these limited edition sheets.
