The art of scale modelling has always involved mastering new  and perfecting older techniques to achieve the level of skill and detail each individual modeler is satisfied with.  Nico Deboeck has a new book called "A detailed view at building Jet-Models".  Nico has pulled together some very talented modellers to show their techniques in an effort to help you improve your jet models.  These modellers include Dirk Peeters, Jean-Pierre Van Regenmortal, Luc Van den Ende and ARC's own Girolamo Lorusso.  This 46 page softcover book is available from Daco Publications contains about 100 colour photos to help show the building process step by step with photos and text.

There are a variety of techniques covered in this book including;

Dirk Peeters builds the 1/32 Revell Heinkel He-162 during a 2 week period.  He details the engine with copper wire, builds the cockpit OOB with some drybrushing.  Dirk explains washes and discusses baremetal finishes as well as simulating a wood finish.

• Dirk Peeters and Jean-Pierre Van Regenmortal combine their talents to build the big 1/32 Academy F/A-18C.  These 2 talented modellers use the Daco Publications F/A-18 book to get the details and colours correct.  This model features a resin cockpit and how to properly paint that cockpit...including using pre-shading.  They also scratch build an avionics bay, detail gear bays, pre-shading is used extensively on this model.  They move onto the decaling and use of decal setting solutions and finally weathering techniques.  They also explain how to remove canopy seams lines with effective results.

• Jean-Pierre Van Regenmortal shares his techniques for painting and weathering the 1/32 Revell Tornado and finishing it in a bright yellow Tiger Meet scheme.  Jean-Pierre discusses pre-shading, drybrushing and other techniques on a resin cockpit in this Tornado.  The finish on this model uses pre-shading and post shading and Jean-Pierre explains this.

• Jean-Pierre Van Regenmortal builds the 1/32 Tamiya F-16CJ with a resin cockpit and super detailed gear bays.  Getting the details and colours correct was done with the Daco Publications F-16 book.  Jean-Pierre spends quite a bit of effort scratch building detail in the gear bays with very effective results.  Jean-Pierre explains in detail the process of pre-shading and post shading the fuselage.

• Luc Van den Ende builds the ESCI/Italeri S-3 Viking.  Luc scratchbuilt the ejection seats, instrument panels and other cockpit details.  He also rebuild the crew-access hatch, landing gear, landing gear bays, lower fuselage, arrestor hook and it's housing and the refueling pod.  He then went on the scratchbuild the wing folds from plastic sheet, copper wire and brass strip.  Luc also srcatchbuilt the engine intake fan blades with aluminium sheet with perfect results.  The finish on this model was weathered and Luc talks about this.

the S-3 Viking in 1/48th scale

• ARC's own Girolamo Lorusso has an article on painting and detailing the 1/48 EA-6B Prowler.  Girolamo rescribed the panel lines.  He also scratch built the; cockpit, opened the nose, detailed gear bays, built wings folds and the birdcage housing and detailed the inside of the fuselage.  Extensive use of sheet styrene and copper wire was used during the scratch building process.
