This new decal sheet from Balkan Models includes markings for 5 different 1/48 Bf-109E Emils.

Jagdgeschwader 54 (JG 54) Grünherz (Green Hearts) was a Luftwaffe fighter wing during the Second World War. It was known as the Green Hearts Wing, and it was the second highest scoring wing of all time, JG 52 being the highest. JG 54 flew on the Eastern Front, racking up over 9,600 kills, with aces such as Walter Nowotny, Otto Kittel, Freiherr Peter Grunhertz, Hans Phips Philipp, Gunther Lutzow, Emil Bully Lang (Lang holds the record for most kills in a day,18), Max-Hellmuth Ostermann, Dietrich Hrabak, Werner Schroer and Hannes Trautloft being the most famous Experten.
JG 54 was known for its non-standard camouflage schemes, similar to what most Luftwaffe medium bomber (Kampfgeschwader) wings already used from early in World War II. For example, Bf-109F-4's on the Leningrad front 1941–42 were painted in black-greendark-green splinter finish with yellow under cowling and under the wing tips. (wikipedia)

The 5 aircraft include:

  • Bf-109 E3 "White Chevron", flown by Hptm. Hubertus Von Bonin, I/JG.54, Eindhoven, 1940

  • Bf-109 E1 Red 7, flown by unknown pilot, II/JG.54, Herzogenaurach, 1939

  • Bf-109 E3 White 7, flown by Maj. Reinhard Seiler, I/JG.54, Western front, 1940

  • Bf-109 E3 White 11, flown by unknown pilot, I/JG.54, Western front, 1940

  • Bf-109 E1 or E3 Yellow 1, flown by Oblt. Hans Schmoller-Haldy, I/JG.54, Western front, 1940

The Bf-109 Emils have always been a special 109 to me and this decal sheet captures a wonderful variety of 109E's with artwork and a cool variety of camo schemes.  They were the fighter that helped the Luftwaffe dominate the skies in the early part of the war.

The swastikas are in 2 parts to avoid problems for modellers in Germany.

You can buy this decal sheet directly from Balkan Models.
