Invision Tech guy was having trouble logging into the ARC server
using SSH to upgrade the ARC Forums. I've adjusted the SSH
log-in settings for him and he should be ok now.

Sept 28 update
The latest
glitch
seems to be regarding the permissions on some of the files for the
discussion program....the files had "root" permissions and
not "web" permissions. The server tech support reset
the permissions for me. With luck the upgrade will proceed
further today. The guy doing the upgrading seems to know his
stuff. I have included the fine detail here incase you
understand this sort of stuff.

Sept 27 update
I have
restored the forums to their pre-upgrade state to permit the tech
support form the Invision Discussion Forum to give the upgrade a
second try.

I need to
arrange for the back-up of the forums to be loaded to the server
computer so a second attempt at the upgrade can be made by a more
experienced member with Invision Tech support.

There
seems to be a glitch in the upgrading process and work has been
stopped to bring in a higher level of Tech Support. The higher
level of Tech Support only works Monday to Friday and a new Trouble
Ticket has been opened. I await them to move this process
forward.

As far as
I know the problem line of code has been resolved. I'm now
waiting for the program to be upgraded and brought back
online.....perhaps this weekend?

Thursday Sept 22 update
There is
only 1 line of code remaining to be fixed before the forum program
can be upgraded and brought back online. There seems to be a
trick getting that line of code sorted and I've got tech support
from 2 companies working on this issue. I am hopeful it will
be sorted soon, but it is proving to be frustrating to be so close
and not there yet. I keep working on this in every free minute
day and night.

Wednesday Sept 21 update
The tech
support from Invision Power Board (forum program) have asked my to
upgrade the PHP program to a newer higher version and also get 6 or
8 settings on the server computer adjusted. Most of that has
been done....there are just 2 more settings that need to be adjusted
and those will be adjusted today.

The Domain
name is finally at the new computer at the new hosting
company. Today I worked on updating the settings
with no success so I have called in ARC member Neo with his
knowledge to keep this process moving along. Progress is
going very well.....slow but well.

and see what else needs to be done. Moving a domain name can
take up to 5 days, but I'm hoping that will be complete in the next

The Domain name is in the process of being moved. And I'm working on configuring the settings so the forums program can find the forums database. I've just come off 3 days of 15 hour days at work and I now have 4 days off so that should give me time to focus on getting this done.

Friday Sept 9 updateSuccess for phase 1 of the move...the forums database and program are on the new server. I'm in the process of learning the layout of the new servers control panel etc and editing the settings to get the forums up and running at the new server computer.

Wednesday Sept 7 updateA request has been sent to the new hosting company asking them to move the data from the old server computer to the new server computer.

ARC Forums moving to new server
New hosting company set up a "root" server instead of a "managed" server. I contacted them and got them to set up a new server. A "root" server would give me access to all programs on the server...it also means if there are any problems with the server....the problems are mine to solve. I am not a programmer and avoid root servers. A "managed" server comes with tech support if server has a problem.
New "managed" server is set up at new hosting company.
Here are the problems.
Time frame
I expect all this to take 5 to 14 days.
I'll probably start this on Tuesday.....keep an eye on the ARC homepage for daily updates during the move.
