This is a representation of the MT 30 painted in this special scheme for the 30th anniversary of the Fouga Magister in the Belgian Air force in september 1989. A large red arrow and white wings, the emblem of 33 sqn where painted on the underside. The emblems of all the squadrons, wings and teams that flew the Magister during this 30 years where painted on both sides of the nose
This kit is the Heller Fouga Magister in 1/72. Decals came from Daco. Not
much of a detailed kit but the only one available in that scale. The kit went
together without much problems. Painting was done using Humbrol aluminium and
Daco PA 06 blue.
The decals gave a bit of a problem as the insignias on the
nose had to be constructed out of 4 or 5 different decals. Carefully applying
one on top of the other and allow sufficient time to dry was necessary although
some silvering was inevitable.
I've build the kit with its wheels down but
after an encounter with one of our feline friends the landing gear
disappeared.
So I had to rebuild it as a flying model or get myself a new one
for the replacement parts. I decided for the first option and closed up the
gearbays with puty and sanded it smooth. A pilot figure was added and buckled in
with some leadfoil seatbelts.
During the encounter some of the decals where
also damaged so I went out to look for replacements but this sheet was sold out
unfortunately.
Then I was saved by a friend of mine who had these decals and
was kind enough to give them to me, thanks again Bob.
The stand is a simple block of MDF. A hole was drilled and a length of clear sprue was inserted. I also drilled a small hole in the kits fuselage and placed it on the sprue, simple but nice looking.
