Hi there. After recently taking an
interest in the history of World War 2, I purchased myself a 1/48 scale
model of a Spitfire Mk. IX C/XVI by Revell. This is the first plastic model that
I have tried and I enjoyed it very much. I started by painting some of the
pieces that where part of the internal cockpit. Then followed the instructions
cutting each part out and filling down any rough areas. Each part is numbered, so
it was easy to glue the whole plane together. Some parts are pretty small so it
took a steady hand and a pair of tweezers, (I'm a creative person, so I have all
sorts of useful tools laying about). After letting the glue set overnight, it was
time to paint it.

I don't actually have an
airbrush, but like I said, this is my first model so I painted the plane by
brush. Again the instructions show you which colours were needed, but
I'm
a big fan of the Spitfire so I already knew how it should look. The next
step was to add the decals that came with the kit. A steady hand was again
needed for this. I wanted to make my model my own, so I chose to add a
pin-up to the sides. I couldn't get a decal of this so I made my own (it
wasn't that hard, I just printed out the image onto transfer paper).
I then checked out some other
finished models on the web and learnt that the final step should be weathering.
This gives the plane that realistic used look. I tried my own technics for this
using oils and an old rag. Maybe not the technics used by professionals, but
I think they worked.
