Built
this Voodoo over the course of about a year (about 100 hours in actual modeling
time) for a friend of our family. We call him “Pops”. Pops worked on the
electronics in the Voodoo during the 1960’s (they called these guys “The
Voodoo Medicine Men”). He was stationed at Cape Cod, MA on Otis AFB with the
60th FIS (http://fisrg.com/101Bpix.html
). I had hoped to build the Voodoo with his squadron’s markings, but was
unable to find the decal sheets.
This
Voodoo was built entirely OOB with the exception of the decals. For the
markings, I used Eagle Strike’s sheet for the 15th FIS. This was my
first effort at a Natural Metal Finish. My air compressor died after airbrushing
the gloss black undercoat. From that point on, I used Model Master Metalizers
from the “rattle can”. These really buffed up well and provided a really
nice finish. I lightly weathered the finish and completed with the Metalizer
sealer followed by a clear coat.

After
completing the fiddly bits, I took the model to Pops during a snowy day in
Tennessee to thank him for being such a good friend to our family (great
Math tutor for my girls and just all around great guy !). If you’ve
never built a model for someone who has served their country, I highly
recommend it ! The surprise in his eyes and the smile on his face was well
worth the effort I had put into building the Voodoo. After several stories
about Otis AFB and the friends he had made along the way, I shook Pop’s
hand and left his house with a great feeling about this hobby of ours.
Enjoy the photos.
