1/72 Italeri MB326 / Atlas Impala Mk.I

The model was built out of the box but I used MAV Decals for the South African Air Force (SAAF) version. The Impala Mk.I was used as a trainer and was assigned to the Flying Training School at Langebaanweg in Cape Town. For many years it was also the mainstay of the SAAF’s aerobatics team, the Silver Falcons. This is the first in my planned series of 1/72 scale models of aircraft used during the “Bush War” on the Namibian / Angolan border. Although the Mk.I was not directly involved in actual combat, it was the starting point for those who were.

I used Tamiya paints and coated the model with a semi-gloss layer after the decals were applied. Canopies and their painting remain my Achilles heel!

Enjoy the photos.
