Bf109 G6 Erich Hartmann backup aircraft
This is the new 1/32 Revell Bf109 G6 in the markings of the backup aircraft of Erich Hartmann with Eagle Cals EC#132 in which he achieved the 250th victory. Eagle Cals mentions that this could have been Hartman’s backup aircraft because a small red colour No 2 is inside the big yellow 1.

Two main features called my attention of this aircraft:
-
Configuration with Erla Haube canopy like the late version with short vertical stab as seen in early version. Revell kit includes, fortunately, both options.
-
Camouflage std RLM 74/75/76, but side and top views show mottling in fuselage, wings and hstab extrados making her look very attractive.
Additional Aftermarket an scratch build goodies:
The paint process started by creating std camouflage with RLM 74/75/76 over pre-shaded surfaces. Then mottles started to be progressively
sprayed. Decals booklet shows mottling on upper wing and hstab surfaces. I tried paler shades of RLM74 with flat
white and some drops of RLM82 in order to generate contrast with std camouflage.
Well, there she is, the backup mount of Major
Hartmann. The subject? very enjoyable, such scheme gives endless possibilities of interpretation, even if there would be a picture of the actual ship.
In the end I’m quite happy with the outcome. That’s what makes Luftwaffe camouflages so enjoyable and popular, I’m not the first making such statement.
Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Thanks for looking.
Cheers
Mauricio Castro
