Hello, fellow modelers!
I’d like to share with you some pictures of a Hasegawa Grumman Avenger in 1-72 scale that I finished on January this year. I chose to finish mine as a TBF-1C of VC-69 aboard USS Bogue, CVE-9, in Atlantic WW2 camouflage scheme.

Hasegawa kits are still the only option if one wants to build a more or less accurate Avenger in 1-72 scale, being far better than the Academy kit. Nevertheless, these kits are not up to today’s standards, being typical of late ‘80s kits, with fine recessed panel lines but sparse detail in the cockpit and the bomb/torpedo bay. Certainly a new tool Avenger kit in 1-72 scale is needed.

I built my Avenger almost OOB (including kit’s decals,) with the addition of masking tape seat harnesses, a scratchbuilt pitot tube and a scratchbuilt antenna mast (just because I lost kit parts,) and scratchbuilt dipoles for the ASB antennas, which really adds a lot to the look of the finished model. I also added antenna cables made from human hair. The model was painted with Model Master and Humbrol enamel paints, and Polly Scale Gloss and Xtracrylic Flat acrylic varnishes. Panel lines were lightly enhanced with an H drawing pencil and an enamel wash for the control surfaces’ panel lines. Additional weathering was done with brushed on painted chips and powdered pastel chalks. I tried to represent rust just beginning to appear next to some of the panels’ edges.

I’m very satisfied with the outcome, and I hope you’ll like my model.

Greetings from Caracas, Venezuela, a country were nowadays it’s very hard to find quiet moments for model building and other activities that require a minimum of concentration.
