According to me, till Eduard came out with its 1/72 Spitfire VIII kit, Hasegawa was the benchmark for the Mk VIII in 1/72 scale. This is the 5th time I have built this kit and its always been a pleasure. The build has no surprises and is really fast. The parts fit well requiring minimal filler. Colors used are all Tamiya RAF colors (Dark Green, Flat Earth and Medium Sea Grey). The only thing not out of box were the decals for which I used Exito Decals' "Sexy Spitfires" sheet. Seat belts are made out of masking tape. Other reference material included the excellent book - "Spitfires in the Sun" By Vikram Singh.

The markings I chose are for MT841 of the Royal Indian Air Force. This was one of the every rare Spitfires in the subcontinent that had nose art. This was last flown by P/O Pat Callaghan in 1947 when he belly landed the aircraft at Kohat airfield, India. The aircraft engine had caught fire after an oil leak.
