The inspiration for this build was a visit to Duxford about 10
years ago. The bright red and white colour scheme carried by XH897 was in stark
contrast to the mainly camouflaged types surrounding it. XH897 carried this
scheme whilst it was based at Boscombe down and used for 'Position Error
Correction', photo chase duties, and calibration of Concorde and MRCA (later to
be the Tornado) test aircraft. This model is about my third after a modelling
gap of some 25 years.

The kit is the Airfix FAW 9 and is pretty much straight from the
box, the most obvious addition being the nose probe which was made from
stretched sprue. The airwaves detail set was used in the cockpit and on the
undercarriage. Fortunately the kit decals include the underwing serials albeit
in a different order, the smaller serials came from a modeldecal set. Photos of
the upper surfaces proved very elusive but fortunately I was able to make a very
rough sketch of the upper triangle demarcation during my visit to
Duxford which showed that the roundels on the upper surface were contained
within the red area.
Enjoy the photos.
