1/48 Monogram B-29

Hi all I noticed there are not many B-29's on this site so I decided to post my latest project. I chose to build the monogram kit because it is big. I wanted to see just how good the Alcad paints would work on such a big model. In short I am very happy with the results.

The trick to the Alclad is just to follow the directions. Make sure the surface is glass smooth and that you have an airbrush that can spray very smooth and consistant. Once  the base coat is on I just add in darker color to show panel lines.

This particular B-29 was flown by the father of a man that lives near me. The plane was stationed on Tinian from late 1944 to the end of the war. The plane was returned to the states and scrapped. The nose art is hand painted and most of the markings were done with stencils.

Most of you know the kit is not a moder kit and the detail is limited. The only modification I did was to sand down the nose glass smooth then polish. Then I used bare metal foil to create the structure. It is not super accurate but looks better than painting it. Over all the kit was fun and easy to build. It is no show winner but looks very impressive on the shelf. I would highly recommend  this kit for a  pleasure build.
