The
kit is built virtually straight from the box; with the exception of an Airwaves
Normandy filter and Aires 20mm cannons all other details are scratch built using
plasticard and bits from the spares box. The aircraft belongs to 164 Sqn RAF and
it has been left for repair as the Sqn has moved forward to support ground
troops, re-arrange the French rail net work and take on Hitler’s Panzers. With
Sqn's moving to keep up with the Allied advance, damaged aircraft were left
for the RSU's (Repair and salvage Units) to patch up, sometimes many wrecks
making one aircraft to be returned to Sqn use.

The
kit is for my friend's Dad’s birthday. My friend’s grandfather (in the
pictures on the base) was a member of 413 RSU RAF during WWII and arrived in
France just after D-Day. I was lucky enough to look at his grandfather’s
picture albums; this was a treat in itself. Basically a photographic tour from
Baghdad in the 30's via Europe to the Far East in the early 50's. A real treat
to see.
