I think
it is not neccessary to present the MiG-21 to anyone. In some points it
represented a significant threat for the west in the Cold War. The different
variants served in Europe by all countries of the Warsaw Pact as the most
widespread interceptor. The type also served in relative large numbers and type
variety in the Hungarian Air Force. The first ones arrived at Pápa air force
base in 1961, where their active service also ended in year 2000 by the 47th PÁPA
Tactical Fighter Wing.

The kit is an old KP
model, I build it many years before. Generally the kit is not the best quality
and it needs a lot of work, even if you build it out of the box. Today we can
meet the same kit with many different names, but the only difference is the
decal and the box, the inside is mostly the same. At
that time the KP kit was the only one I could get on the market, so I started to
modify it to the bis type (to tell the truth with not total success). The most
visibly differences are by the bug, by the air intake, and by the antennas.
I
added the typical armament used by Hungarian bis for interceptor role: 2 R-60
missiles on APU-62 launchers and 2 R-3R missiles on APU-13TM’s. The national
insignias I took from another kit, the squadron decals and the stencils are self
made.
