F4U-1A of VMF-212 "MARY-Jo."

During World War Two, I collected hundred's of black and white, and color photos of our fighters and bomber's.  The enclosed photo of a Corsair setting in a revetment on Vella Lavella is one of my favorites.  When I got back into modeling in 1977, I knew that one day down the road, I just had to build a model of "MARY-Jo   911."

I purchased a 1/72 scale Tamiya F4U-1D kit in 2004, and build my model almost out of the box, so it looked like the Corsair that's in the photo.

I found the name of "MARY Jo" and the "911" numbers in my collection of Superscale decals.  I used coral sand on my base, which came from a beach by the name of  "Lefaga," on the island of Upolu, Samoa in 1971.

Enjoy !
