1/144 Minicraft Delta DC-8-71

Some folks have problems with 1:144 scale Minicraft airliners.  Yes, some are not so hot, the Lockheed Electra comes to mind.  But others are very good, including the 737 family, the MD-80 and the DC-4.  This stretched version of the DC-8 tops them all.  It is blessed with excellent fit and outstandingly detailed decals.  This version has CFM-56 engines that were fitted to Delta and United versions starting in 1982.  I used Floquil Reefer White, Bright Silver and SP Lettering Gray enamels to paint my DC-8.  I very thin spray of Tamiya Smoke was used on the wings and tail area for weathering.

Everything is out of the box, except I did replace some antennas with sheet styrene.

The fit is outstanding on this kit.  I was able to attach the wings to the fuselage and engines to the wings using no filler/putty.  For those wanting either of the two short body DC-8 versions, the cut lines are clearly marked on the interior of the fuselage.  Other versions will be coming from Minicraft for Eastern Airlines and United Airlines with different engines.  However, all will be the stretched version.

This will not be my last DC-8, as I want to do one with after market Air Canada decals.
