1/32 Tamiya F-4 Phantom II

United States of America Independence Day 2006

This model started life as a Tamiya F-4C.  I wanted to do an F-4N.  The only option was to use the CAM conversion set or do it myself.  After studying the subject I decided the best approach was to do it myself.  The main external differences are the wings and tail.  The N model is basically a B model that has undergone several modifications.  Among these were a slotted horizontal tail and various ECM bulges.

The N still had the narrow tires of the original B model Phantom so it had a narrower set of tires and therefore did not have the wing bulge that was added to every model F-4 from the C model on.  I simply cut out the top and bottom areas of the wing that was bulged and replaced it with sheet styrene.  I rescribed the wing panels to match an N and moved onto the tail.  I added the slotted tail with steet styrene.  The ECM bulges on the tail and under radome "donkey d**k" were added with putty.

The AIM-9's are from the excellent Cutting Edge AIM-9D product.  The Sparrows are unmodified from the kit.

I wanted to do the model in the markings of Mugs McKeon as it was used on his MiG-killing mission in 1972.  The decals are from Superscale.  The paint is Model Master with a subtle weathering of pastels, this was afterall, the CAG's bird.

This model has won several awards over the years and was not the last conversion I have made to an N model.  I am interested in selling this model for the right price.  It you are interested E-mail me with an offer.
