1/72 Revell Messerschmitt
Bf-109 G-10/AS

This is the Revell Messerschmitt  Bf109 G-10/AS built in the markings of Major Erich Hartmann, the undisputed ace of aces. The idea came from looking for a nice kit for a bit of a relaxing build after tackling the new Tamiya 1/32 F-16CJ kit (which I will be posting another time). I also, at the same time, wanted to build a Hartmann plane because I really wanted a Messerschmitt with the black tulip in my collection. And here I am with my little Messerschmitt.

The kit was vast improvement over the older Revell kits. The fit was like that of Tamiya, and the accuracy was of Hasegawa. It had the basic shape and didn't really need a lot of filler or putty, just a few test fitting and some Mr. Surfacer 1000 was all that I needed. The detail is very good, nicely recessed panel lines and the decals were opaque and of perfect register. The only item not from the box was the double chevron and the heart. Otherwise, the kit's OOB.

A few pointers though. To build my version of the G-10, which in this case is the G-10/AS, there are two small bumps on the underside of the cowling (just behind the propeller). Don't follow the instructions about these bumps in this part of construction. Otherwise, you'd end up with a regular G-10. The morane antenna under the wing is a bit short for the G-10/AS and needs just a little bit of extending. A tank retaining band was added by using a thin strip of aluminium from a soda can. Paints were Tamiya acrylics all throughout. Colours used were XF-61 Dark Green, XF-22 RLM Grey and the Tamiya Primer's grey. Johnson's Klear served as my clear coat and decal setting solution.

Overall, I enjoyed building this kit and would soon return into large scale planes.
