Fast
attack bomber Vultee V-11 was developed from Company’s commercial
transport, V-1. This all metal, low wing monoplane was very advanced and modern
in mid-thirties. However, American Army Air Force’s lack of interest
resulted foreign sales. Equipped with a more powerful engine,
Vultee V-11’s were sold to Brazil, USSR, China and Turkey.
Designated
as VT-11GBT, forty machines were received between 1937 and 1938. They were
served until being replaced by Republic P-47D’s in 1948.

Azur’s
1/72 injection kit molded in gray plastic. Parts are clean and flash free
very nice. Engraved panel lines well executed. Some of resin parts for
cockpit details also included. Vac-form canopy comes in two different styles,
with spares. Fit of the parts were nice with no big problems. Most time
consuming part was masking the long glasshouse canopy.
Turkish
Vultee’s were delivered with chrome yellow uppersurfaces with
aluminium. undersides. It seems this scheme changed to dark
green or even multi tonal camouflages in operational life. For
delivery colors, I used a mixture of Tamiya acrylic colors: flat yellow
and orange, also Humbrol metal cote for aluminum surfaces. Since
panel lines were very delicate only one, thin layer gloss paint applied.
Canopy received usual Future treatment. After a very light burnt
umber wash, my Vultee was finished. I’m very pleased with the
results. Strongly recommended to Turkish Air Force enthusiasts.
