New Zealand  --  Waitangi Day 2007

This model was another commission build completed a few months ago. The pilot who flew it was the uncle of the gentleman who I built it for. Unfortunately I don't have many details about the aircraft history. About the best I can do is say this model represents his 43rd mission, the morning before he was shot down by flak over France. He was on a ground attack mission, attacking a train of some description. He crash landed in a field, where he died.

The kitset was built straight out of the box with the exception of some wine bottle neck metal scratch built seat belts, and the squadrons codes. I have used Gunze and tamiya acrylic paints. which went on surprisingly well. I then coated it with future, applied the roundels and other decals. I then masked off the lettering to go on the sides, painted them with humbrol enamels which I've found are very good for keeping a straight edge. Once all the paint was dried an acrylic wash was applied, followed with another coat of future to seal it all in. The exhaust and machine gun stains were then applied, once again using humbrol colours, with an airbrush, which were smartly followed with 2 coats of wattyl estapol flat varnish to finish.

I can recommend this kit for any level of modeler. It seems these days the modeling companies are making models that don't take too much skill to get a good finish. Which does make the modelers job easier. I hope that I don't lose any skill I have acquired with scratch building though.
