1/32 Tamiya F-14D and Revell F-14B

I was asked by a Retired Navy Chief Petty Officer if I could build him a 32nd Scale F-14D.  My first thought was OUCH!!  But, I considered it and decided to give it a shot.  I’ve built the Tamiya kit before and knew what was involved with making the thing look halfway decent.  And I figured since so much pain was involved with the Tamiya build I might as well induce a little more pain and build me a B model using a Revell kit I had collection dust.

I used Teknics cockpit sets and airframe conversions on both kits.  The Teknics cockpit sets are beautiful when finished but a real struggle to get to that point.   MUCH sanding has to be done to fit the tubs correctly.  As for the airframe sets, they are relatively painless.  The tail conversion fits really well on the Tamiya kit.  The conversion for the Revell kit takes a little more work, but it does fit as you can see from the picks.

I used CAM decals for the Revell kit and Twobobs decals for the Tamiya kit.  The Twobobs decals were in 48 scale and had to be enlarged.  This was taken care of by my retired shipmate.

Both aircraft were finished with a relatively light weathering job.  And I scratch built some FOD covers.
