The May 1998
issue of "Combat Aircraft" had an article about the US Navy
activating their Naval Strike and Air Warfare Centre at NAS Fallon,
Nevada. One of the photographs showed a TOPGUN Hornet. Two years later, I
found this Hasegawa kit in Perth, Western Australia. It took me another
seven years before I found it at the back of my storage cupboard
and built it.

The model was
built OOB with no special attention to weathering or detail. My aim
was to test the use of FUTURE since in the past I only used a
lacquer-based gloss coat. After reading various methods of applying FUTURE
and testing them on a scrap model, I found a technique that provided the
same gloss coat that I would achieve with lacquers. This was also my
first model to be painted using an airbrush; namely, the HANSA 281.
