By the end of
the 1960's, the Belgian Air Force was looking for a replacement of their
aging F 84's Thunderstreaks and RF 84F Thunderflashes of the 2nd wing.
One
option would be the Mirage V, the export version of the Mirage III without
radar and reduced electronic equipment. The other option would be the Saab
37 Viggen. After long discussion, the Belgian government decided to go for
the Viggen and placed an order for 40 AJ 37 Strike variants and 20 SF 37
Recce Viggens. The first deliveries began in 1972 and by the end of 1974
all Sqn's had received their new aircraft.
The Recce Viggens went to 42nd Sqn Mephisto that was now the only photo
reconnaissance unit in the Belgian Air Force.

The kit is the Heller Saab
Viggen that can be built in the 3 versions of this aircraft. Decals came from
various leftovers from Bemgian builds.
