I just received a
pair of Two Mikes resin intake covers in the mail. The resin intake for a
Phantom should be a simple thing. However Two Mikes went far above what some
other companies have done in creating theirs.
First off and most
important, They are deep. There is enough resin material to give a firm
indication that the sucker covers are in and in to stay. I have a older set by
another company that pop out. Even after being glued in place. As you can see by
the photos below the Two Mikes intakes just slide into position with finger
pressure. Very simple, and they stay in position went left alone WITHOUT glue.
Which is excellent should I wish to change them to another model at some point.
As mentioned the Two
Mikes set will not need the addition of glue. Once they are in they don't move.
Even taking them out of the box you could tell they were ready to go with just a
minimal amount of cleanup. For cleanup, a couple swipes with a sanding stick and
they are good to go.
The intakes are
even marked "L" and "R" so you can't screw up the placement,
very nice.
Another nice thing.
They are molded in red. I'll paint them later I am sure, but to be
honest......There really is no need. The colour is right to begin with.

The things that need
improvement. With the molds, NOTHING, great to go out of the box. However I
think if these were sold in sets of two pairs with "REMOVE BEFORE
FLIGHT" decals as shown in the real example on the instruction page would
help in sales.
The reason I think
they should be sold in pairs of two.......well the box was pretty big , seemed a
waste of postage and it might save the Mikes a couple coins to up the cost of
the intakes by upping the amount of intakes the customer gets. Less mail is more
savings. Also the bigger point, look at all those 1/48 Phantoms in the stash
that could benefit from more of these excellent intakes.
Two Mikes
Phantom intakes are indeed "Phantom" approved.
