Skygrid’s Aviaeology decal
division has released a set of decals in three scales featuring RCAF Coastal
Command Beaufighters, circa 1944. All of the featured aircraft,
of 404 Squadron RCAF, wear invasion stripes, and are finished in Extra Dark Sea
Grey uppers, Sky lowers. Two aircraft, in four different markings schemes, are
represented in the smaller scales; one aircraft, in three schemes, is on the
1/32 scale sheet. Extensive notes and illustrations, including photos, are on
the two pages of instructions. The decals are printed in accurate MAP colours,
with perfect registration. Recommendations for kits to use are made for each of
the scales.
The accurate colours and
registration have been made possible by the use of an innovative, short run
printing process. The manufacturer claims superior crack resistance, durability,
and colour opacity. The carrier
film (as with ALPS decals) covers the entire sheet. Softening solutions may be
used with the applied decal to eliminate any visible vestige of the film.
Extensive notes on the printing process (Digital Silk) and decal
application techniques are included in the accompanying documentation.
The decals are packaged in a
zip-lock clear bag, which also contains the two pages of black & white
instruction (full colour printable version available on-line). The decals may be
ordered on-line at: sales@aviaeology.com
