Product Article by Dave Johnson on the May 20 2010

Tamiya has re-boxed their 1/48 P-51 B and D Mustang series in two Limited Editions kits which include new decal schemes and extra parts. Today I will be looking at extra contents included with the P-51B “Blue Nose” Mustang kit. The kit itself hasn’t changed in any kind of form since it was first released back around 1995. So most modelers should know what to expect from this fantastic  “Shake and Bake” kit from Tamiya.

For those who aren’t to familiar with the kit, the 1/48 P-51 series from Tamiya has to be the best on the market to date. The standard kit offers a lot of optional parts straight from the box –

Choice of open or closed canopy

Choice of Blown or Malcolm hoods

Optional pilot figure

Positional flaps

Positional rear radiator flap

Choice of exhaust stacks

Optional 108 gallon Paper drop tanks

Optional 500 lb bombs (two)

In this Limited Edition boxing includes two extra pilots. One seated with his arm leaning on the side of the cockpit and the other is in a standing pose. Also canopy masks are included.

Cartograf in Italy has printed the decal sheet that contains the two “Blue Nose” or as 352nd Fighter Group were known “The Blue Nose Basterds of Bodney”.

The two decal options are for the same aircraft “Snoot Sniper” Flown by Lt. Francis W. Horne of the 328th Fighter Squadron, 352nd Fighter Group. The differences between the two schemes are the time periods, June 1944, which carries full D-Day stripes on upper and lower wings and fuselage. August 1944, just carries D-Day stripes on the lower rear fuselage.

I would like to thank Hobby Link Japan for supplying this review sample.
