WW1 Events - this date in  1915

Happy Merdeka to everyone in Malaysia.  Well done to everyone that helped to make this special Malaysin update.
Brian "Mr B" Param starts this special update with his 1/48 Monogram F-5E "Tiger Down".  This is a diorama of an actual F-5 that ended up in a rice field after an aborted take-off.  It's very well done and quite the cool diorama.  Well done Brian.

Thomas "Masterqq" Ng is here with his eye catching 1/48 Fujimi Alouette III.   Thomas built this beauty out of the box and finished it in a high viz paint scheme and Malaysian markings.

Aidy Abdullah has added some resin detail items to improve his 1/48 Academy MiG-29N "Blue Tailed Bandit".  This Malaysian jet is wearing a very colorful taliart that looks excellent on this MiG-29.

Nazaruddin Hashim has done an extreme amount of extra work on his 1/48 Hasegawa S-61A-4 NURI RMAF.  Nazaruddin modified the interior and exterior of his S-61 with some extremely well done detailing and painting.  You'll love seeing the photos of this chopper model.

Brian "Mr B" Param built a massive 1/48 Italari C-130 Charlie diorama for a friend.  It is a massive display loaded with excellent detail.  I really enjoyed seeing this.

Thomas "Masterqq" Ng is here with a very rare Malaysian aircraft.  This is his good looking 1/72 Monogram HU-16B Albatross and it appeared in Malaysia.  It's cool to see this on ARC.

Aidy Abdullah is here with another 1/48 Academy Mig-29N and this time it is wearing an attractive Malaysian camo scheme.  Aidy added extra detail using aftermarket resin as well as some added work.

Brian "Mr B" Param is here with something different today.  This is his diecast 1/72 Alouette III improved by Brian's skilled hands and then finished in Malaysian markings.

Polish (Military) Aviation Day

Just a heads up.....I'll be flying to the Philippines next week to check on the progress of the modest 3 room concrete block house I'm building for Angel's family to replace their rotting bamboo home.  Updates will continue while I'm gone for 3 weeks.  I'll try to get some photos or video of their house to let you guys see how this project is coming along.  The project has been slowed down by a death in the family, but I'm hoping the project will soon be back on track.  The family is currently living with relatives in a neighboring home and I'm keen to see them in their new home.

WW1 Events - this date in  1915

M. J. Gormley has tried out some weathering techniques with great success on the classic 1/48 Revell OS2U Kingfisher.  The techniques were from David Rapasi and as you will see in the photos...it works very well.  I really enjoyed seeing this Kingfisher....these older kits do build into great looking models.

Keith Chambers is here with his 4th egg plane on ARC.  This is one of the more famous F-4 paint schemes on his Grade A Scale Hasegawa F-4J Phantom II VX-4 Vandy 1 Black Bunny.  Keith heavily modified and improved his egg plane with a scratchbuilt cockpit and aftermarket photo etch and finished it all off with some aftermarket decals to make his egg plane unique.  Checks out Keith's other egg planes on his member page using the link at the bottom of his article.

Richard Nicoletti starts today with his 3rd article on ARC and what a flawless looking 1/48 Tamiya P-51D Mustang.  Richard has high praise for the Tamiya kit and he gave it a splendid finish and the markings for 1st Lt. Urban L. Drew in October 1944 when he was credited with being the first American airman to shoot down two German Me-262 jet fighters while on the same mission.  This Mustang looks fantastic from every photo.  I'm impressed how well the bare metal and green camo look.

Dragan Cvetic used the tiny 1/144 Eduard MiG-21 MF to create his lovely looking Fishbed in Angolan camo and markings.  Even though this is 1/144, Dragan added seatbelts to dress up the cockpit.  This tiny Eduard kit does build into a great looking MiG-21 and you will see in Dragan's photos.

J.J.Chen has gotten very creative with his what-if 1/48 HobbyBoss ‘Sea’ Thunderbolt.  This folded wing P-47 looks very much like the WW2 USN fighters in the Pacific and it was a special treat to see this Sea Thunderbolt.

Tamás Skriba is here to honour the Hungary National Day in style with his 1/72 KP MiG-21MFs.  Tamás used a variety of aftermarket items and scratchbuilding to upgrade the detail on both of his MiGs and he even re-scribed the panel lines on the baremetal jet.  Once he got to the painting and weathering stage....then Tamás really showed his high level of skill with his multi-shaded paint work and full weathering.  Both these jets are exceptional and also show the different Hungarian National insignia over the years.  This is Tamás' 10th article on ARC.

Tamás Skriba is also here to mark the Hungarian Natioanl Day with his 1/72 Hungarian Air Force collection.   Tamás has included quite the variety of good looking jet complete with exceptionally well done weathering jobs.  This is Tamás' 11th article on ARC and it's good to see Hungary remembered today on this special day.  .

Derek Derks has done a huge amount of work creating his highly detailed 1/400 Royal Netherlands Navy Aircraft Carrier R81 "Hr.Ms. Karel Doorman".  This is a multi-media kit that required quite a variety of aftermarket and scratchbuilt items to pull it all together.  Derek has done a terrific amount of expert quality work on his Dutch carrier (1 of 2 carriers operated by the Netherlands) and I deeply enjoyed seeing each photo of this masterpiece.  Amazing work Derek!!!!

Ramon R. Lomeli has done a spectacular job on his early war 1/48 Airfix Bf-109E-4/Trop.  Ramon built his sharp looking Emil out of the box and then gave it a skillful painting and weathering job.  This is one beautifully done 109.

Alex Sidharta has added extra details to his 1/72 Academy F-16C-52ID and then finished it of with aftermarket decals and a sharp looking camo scheme.

Iwan Winarta used markings from CJM Decal to turn his 1/72 Airfix Vampire into a great looking Indonesian jet complete with darkened panel lines.

India Independence Day

Congo National Day

Republic of Korea National Day

WW1 Events - this date in  1915

I would like to thanks the Indian Scale Modellers for all their effort in making today's special Indian Independence Day update...well done everyone.

Aamod Potdar is here in first class style with his 1/48 Academy Sukhoi 30K.  This model was rebuilt after a serious crash from 10 feet which caused some very serious damage.  But with help from scale modelling friends, Aamod was able to rebuild his Su 30 to a very high level with an outstanding anniversary paint scheme.

Ratish Nair has done an excellent job on his 1/72 Revell Westland Seaking Mk.42A.  Ratish carefully modified the original kit with scratchbuilding etc to get the exact scale model of the Indian Navy Sea King and then he finishes it off with IN markings including some custom made decals.

Murli Rajan is here with a very special in-flight diorama of his 1/144 Revell Tu-142 & F-14.  This was an actual scene from the late '80's and to create the models Murli used custom made decals.  He has included photos of the original incident.  I loved seeing his models as well as the original photo that inspired Murli.

Paresh Nair is here to honour the Indian Independence Day with a beautiful done 1/72 Hobbyboss UH-1C.  Paresh got some guidance from the Indian Scale Modellers on Facebook plus his own skill gave him much success on this Huey.

Tom Thounaojam dropped by today with 4 models for the 15 August Independence day 2015 update.  Tom has included his eye catching MiG-21 as well as his Mil-17, Jaguar trainer and an old Dassault Mystere all in Indian markings.  There's a good selection of models here and I enjoyed seeing all of them.

Aamod Potdar is here with one of the more interesting helicopter designs.  This is his 1/72 Zvezda Ka - 27 / 28 in Indian Navy markings that was buillt and modified with scratchbuilding with help from the Indian Scale Modellers on Facebook.  I loved seeing this KA 27 / 28 and it looks particularly good in Indian markings..

Paresh Nair has been very busy masking and even did a tiny bit of scratchbuilding on his 1/72 Italeri MiG-29.  Paresh gives big credit to Vinayak Dutt Shukla from Indian Scale Modellers for all his help in pulling this project together.

Ratish Nair has put some exceptional effort and plenty of love into his 1/72 HPM English Electric Canberra TT.418.  This was a challenging project that was made possible with the help of friends on the Internet and the finished target tug model with it's black and yellow striped underside looks fantastic.  I love it.

Murli Rajan has chosen a very special paint scheme for his 1/48 Revell MiG-21 PF.  The paint scheme for for the Indian Air Force 47 squadron "Black Archers" in their "Red Scorchers" scheme and the noseart was hand painted, which is quite impressive.

Paresh Nair finishes this special Indian update with his heavily weathered 1/48 Academy F-4U-4B Corsair.  Paresh was keen to weather his Corsair and used a variety of weathering techniques which he explains in his article.  It''s been a wonderful update and it's great to see this Corsair on ARC today.

Mario Mifsud joins us today in style with his second model on ARC.  This is Mario's 1/72 Hasegawa F-14A in the attractive camo of the Iranian Air Force.  Mario used a very good technique for the soft demarcation lines on the camo and then gave his Tomcat a flawless weathering job to complete the desert look.

Miguel I. Becerril starts today's update with a stunning in-flight display on his 1/48 Hasegawa Turkish RF-4E/TM.  Miguel built his Phantom as the Turkish jet that was shot down by the Syrians in 2012 complete with the landing gear partially retracted as it zooms up from it's runway.  This is quite the stunning model and the inaction display is quite appealing and expertly well done.  I really enjoyed seeing this in-flight display.  This is Miguel's 5th model on ARC.

M.J.Gormley's family has a connection to the legendary USAF Ace Dick Bong.  This is his 1/48 Monogram P-38 “Marge” in all it's glory as it appeared during WW2 in the Pacific.  Included in this article is an autographed photos from Dick Bong himself...which is quite the family treasure.  Mark also includes the history behind this legendary pilot which mentions Talcloban airfield....which was the focal point of Typhoon Yolanda a couple of years ago in the Philippines.

Carmel J. Attard is here with his exceptionally colorful 1/72 Special Hobby Sea Balliol wearing markings for the Royal Navy.  Carmel tell the history of this RN trainer and well as what was involved in building this sharp looking multi-media model.  I love the paint scheme Carmel chose.

Alexandros Alexandrou has done a fabulous job weathering his 1/48 Italeri F-16D Block 50.  Alexandros chose to build his eye catching F-16 in Hellenic (Greek) Air Force camo which is one of the best looking F-16 paint schemes.  Once the camo was applied, he gave his Viper an expertly done weathering job to add the perfect level of realism to his jet.  This is Alexandros first model on ARC and I hope we see more of his models on ARC in the future.

David Mielke has high praise for the 1/48 Airfix E.E. Lightning F6.  David chose the sharks mouth markings for No 5 squadron and finished his Lightning to a very high standard.  It's a special treat to see David's Lightning on ARC.

Greg Kerry is here with his dynamic scene from WW2 of an RAF Typhoon attacking Wehrmacket ground forces.  This is his 1/72 Hobbyboss Hawker Typhoon in-flight with an explosion happening among the enemy troops and vehicle.  The Typhoon has a solid reputation for it's air to ground rocket attacks and it's good to see an RAF Typhoon in action.

In Plymouth we saw the docks where the Mayflower passengers boarded the ship to begin their journey to the New World.  I also saw the spot the 2 first ships of prisoners to Australia were loaded.  Odd....you hear these stories....but to actually stand on the same steps....makes one ponder the big picture.  On our drive back to London from Plymouth we stopped at Stonehenge.....it's pretty amazing to see that after seeing so many photos.  I'm on the final leg of my trip home.....it was an enjoyable 10 days in England.

Zoran Verhovšek has really created something special with his 1/48 Special Hobby Fokker B.II diorama.  Zoran found the Special Hobby Fokker B.II to be a very good quality kit and he then went on to create this modelling masterpiece.  Have a good look and enjoy.

Peter Athanasopoulos joins us from sunny Greece with his 1/48 Heller Mirage 2000-5Mk2.  Peter converted this kit to the Hellenic Air Force version of the aircrafy which reqired a fair bit of work and then he finished it off with his usual high level of skill.  I love these Hellenic Air Force blue paint schemes.

Eric Hargett has a passion for the Phantom and you will see when you have  close look at his 1/48 Hasegawa F-4E Phantom II.  Eric added resin seats to dress up the cockpit as well as aftermarket decals, but the real eye popper is the painting and weathering Eric did on his Phantom to replicate this Vietnam War era Phantom complete with a full weapons load and drop tanks.  Eric got it all right.

Mike Regan is here with his finely done 1/48 Tamiya Mosquito FB.VI.  Mike includes some very interesting his story behind this special Mosquito and it's activities during WW2 as an airliner.  Mike added resin goodies from Ultracast and decals from Liveries Unlimited to finish off this special Mossie Airliner.

WW1 Events - this date in  1915

We drove to Nottingham and had a evening meal and liquid refreshments at an 800 year old pub called "The trip to Jerusalem" which was in business at the time of the Crusaders from long ago.  The bar maid was a Canadian and she gave us a tour of the secret beer cellars beneath the pub that are more like caves carved into the sandstone rock below the pub.  We headed 1 hour north to the village of Bamford in Derbyshire.  It's a quaint little village full of well kept stone houses.  We walked around and took photos of the various signs that featured our family name and had a snack at the "Bamford Bakery" which was next to the "Bamford Dentist" which was down the road from the "Bamford Church".  It is amusing to have a village featuring our family name.  We then drove for a number of hours to meet up with more relatives in Plymouth.  A wonderful night out with a tour of the port with a stop in a pub and a fine dinner to complete our very enjoyable stay in the port city of Plymouth.  Tomorrow we head back to London to prepare for our trip home to Canada.  We've driven 800 miles in the past week exploring the UK and I'm becoming quite comfortable driving on the other side of the road.

Tolga ULGUR is here today with his most recent masterpiece.  This is Tolga's 1/48 Dragon Junkers JU-88A4 in one of the more interesting camo schemes I've seen on a Ju-88.  Tolga added full but subtle weathering to his Ju-88 to complete the look of realism.  Check out the photos of the instrument panel and cockpit....amazing work.

Jeremias Nicolas Luchina is here with something very unique.  This is his 1/48 Aconcagua AT-63 Pampa II with some added gearbay detailing and finished of in Argentine markings with an attractive camo scheme.

Fernando I. Moreno Villa has taken the older 1/72 Monogram F8F-1 Bearcat kit and with some careful work he has turned it into quite the fine looking Bearcat.  Fernando improved the simplistic cockpit with some scratchbuilt detailing and dropped the control surfaces and did other work to upgrade this older kit.  He then finished it off in a multi-shade baremetal finish.

Andy Harsanto has done an amazing amount of detailing and scratchbuilding to create his 1/48 Hasegawa Hovering Harrier GR MK.7.  Andy was very careful to get the mechanical details correct as a Harrier would appear when hovering.  He goes into some very helpful details in his article explaining the process.

Angelo M Picardo is a Paramedic with the East of England Ambulance Service and today he is here with his very nicely done 1/72 Medicopter 117.  Angelo has access for a special boxing of this chopper in the Paramedic with the East of England Ambulance Service markings and in his article there is a link where you can buy this model with these rare markings.

Danny Braverman is here with his eye popping 1/48 Airfix Lightning F.6.  Danny used a resin cockpit with a flawless painting job to dress up his Lightning and then collected various decals to get a full set of the markings he wanted and the final topper is the paint and weathering job on this lightning.  Amazing.

PHAN NGUYEN Hoang Nguyen joins us today with his second model on ARC.  This particular 1/48 Tamiya Skyraider A1-H is in South Vietnamese markings and features a full weapons load and one heck of a well done paint and weathering job.
